Before the apocalypse, the Gates of Heaven Synagogue was a place for worship for the Jewish communities of Madison. However, even though it was able to stay stable for a small amount of time after the apocalypse, it wasn't too long until the Catholic community took over the synagogue, and turned it into a church/community center. The leaders of the church still try to uphold the standards of Catholic church that were in place before the apocalypse. Due to it's close proximity to a body of water, it turned in to an ideal location for trade to take place, which lead to the creation of it being a community center in the first place. Trading goods need to be approved by the church before they are distributed by the public. With control over some trade, the church also has some say in the Madison Government.
